Good idea for a fascinator or sash appliques

Trying to remember how I ended up at this site was like trying to retrace the path of a conversation.  I’m not having any luck remembering, but I really like the look of this rosette from Magpie Lovely.  Could inspire some projects, eh?  Pretty photo, too.  Whenever I see text backgrounds like this, I always want to know what book they are from.  All I’m getting is _____ of a Man.  Wonder what fills in the blank.

No Fresh Flowers

After returning from our trip to Japan and announcing our engagement, I got a tip from a fellow bride-to-be on all the best bridal blogs.  So lunch time became blog-surfing time, and I came across this post on Style Me Pretty.  I love making things by hand, and I have endless patience for repetitive projects like origami.  I also like to make things from what I have laying around the apartment.  And I tend to be allergic to floral arrangements.  So I thought it would be a perfect project to create our flowers and table centerpieces with origami lilies.  I started cutting squares out of magazines to practice folding.

I liked the look of the flowers made from text and pictures so much that I decided to make all the lilies out of recycled paper goods.  It didn’t take long before I had a box full of colorful blossoms.

Next I had to figure out what kind of bases I wanted the flowers to live in.  Cesar and I love chips and salsa, and we go through a jar of Tostito’s salse very quickly.  So with jars readily available and a big bottle of Mod Podge sitting around, I had another idea.

I thought I would give each jar a different theme, all of which would somehow relate to our relationship.  In addition to these three jars, I’ve collaged jars with images of vintage cameras, tattooed ladies from the 20s, colorful graffitti, and plaid.  Eventually, the jars would have fake tea lights inside so they’d have a pretty glow.  I’ve assembled one centerpiece with the jar on pictured above on the far left.  I’m happy with how it turned out, but I think I will also have some with uncollaged bottles for bases to keep each one truly unique.
