Bridal Shop Run Down

September 3, 2010 § Leave a comment

A couple weeks away from gown shopping has allowed me to clear my head a little bit.  With a fresh mindset, and seven or eight boutique visits under my belt, I thought it would be worthwhile to create a Best Of list covering both the New York and Denver shops I’ve toured, working from the outside in.

Best Website: Lovely Bridal Shop, NYC

See for yourself.

Best Storefront: Lovely, NYC

Off the beaten path, and tucked into a garden level space, the hand lettered chalkboard sign is understated perfection.

Honorable mention: Anna Be Bridal Boutique

Best Store Design and Set-up: It’s a tie between Anna Be and Lovely

Both shops have a clean aesthetic and keep the focus on the dresses.  Accessories are well displayed and uncluttered.  The shop colors are key.  Anna Be keeps it rich with dark browns and crisp white, while Lovely softens things up with calming mint, cream, and hints of pink.  And I love all the chalkboard details.

Honorable mention: Little White Dress, Castle Rock, CO

Best Fabric First Impression: Priscilla of Boston, Cherry Creek, CO

All samples on the rack are in ivory, so it’s like looking at a soft curtain of vanilla clouds.  As soon as you walk in the door, you can see the quality of the silks used in their dresses.  It’s quite luxe.

Honorable mention: Little White Dress, Castle Rock, CO

Best Fitting Room: Priscilla of Boston, Cherry Creek, CO

It’s more like a fitting suite, complete with a massive leaning mirror and chaise.

Honorable mention: Anna Be

Best Service:  Lovely Bridal, NYC

I can’t say enough about the ladies at Lovely.  They ask the right questions, they listen to both your dress stories and relationship stories, and they are genuine.  They don’t apply pressure to buy right away, and they know what to suggest when you’ve hit a wall.

Honorable mention: Anna Be

Best Low-Mid Price Selection: RK Bridal, NYC

RK carries a huge range of designers and styles.  The store itself is massive and is set up for high volume business.  And because they carry mostly polyester options from each designer’s line, the prices are generally under $2000.00, with most dresses in the $500-$900.00 range.  RK is great for good design at low prices, as long as you’re okay with sacrificing fabric quality.

Best Mid-High Price Range Selection: Anna Be, Denver, CO

Anna Be does offer some local Colorado dresses, but she also carries Vera Wang, Junko Yoshioka, and Monique Lhuillier.

Best New Designer Selection: Lovely, NYC

I discovered Sarah Seven and Elizabeth Dye here.  And of course, Lovely is currently promoting the wonderful Carol Hannah.

Best Prices: RK Bridal, NYC

As I mentioned, the prices are lower because you are sacrificing fabric quality.  But still, you can find a great design for as little as $450.00.  Nothing to shake a stick at.

Best Price for the Quality: Lovely, NYC

I am 99% sure everything I’ve tried on has been silk.  Although there were a couple about which I forgot to inquire.  None of the dresses I tried were over $3500.00, and many were $700-$1000.
